I know, I know...I have slacked uber-horribly at reccing lately. *Looks at dates* You mean I haven't recced since November? Okay, gotta change that so here goes nothing.

As usual, some of these are old and some of these are new. But they're all good in my opinion.

Highlander/Supernatural

The Things We Do by medie (gen) - Methos takes John to the same spring that saved Duncan during the dark Quickening. It's a short read, but it's so, so good. It shows what kind of father John is and what he'll do to protect his sons. And Methos being Methos was awesome.

Supernatural

Trading Faces by pheebs1 (gen) - I'm a sucker for a good body swap story, and this is a good one. Wee!Dean and Wee!Sam switch bodies, and it is adorable. The way the two look out for each other, even in this state, is wonderful.

Bandom

Rebel Girl by Zee (genderbend pairing of girl!Pete/Patrick, FOB) - It's girl!Pete and girl!Pete is completely awesome. I absolutely loved the emotion, the dialogue, and how Pete was still Pete even though in this universe he was born a girl. Very well done.

For I Was an Earthly Knight by seimaisin (gen, PATD) - This fic is so, so, awesome I can't even describe. It tells the story of how Jon, the only human, joined Panic at the Disco. It's got incredible character development, awesome dialogue, and gripping action. One of my favorites.

Twilight

Amputated at the Neck by Minisinoo - I've pretty much decided you can't go wrong with Minisinoo and her fic. Her descriptions and her character development are all amazing. Plus I was so excited she wrote a Jasper fic that perfectly captured him and probably how he views Edward and Bella's relationship. Sunch a fantastic story!

On Halloween, wee!Dean and wee!Sam learn what it's like to be each other...literally. I adored this story. She had both brothers completely in character. It was sweet, funny, and very, very good.

Take J.D. Robb's In Death series and recast it with bandom folks and hilarity ensues. Great dialogue, great characters, and yes, ladies and gentlemen, it actually has slash tendencies. A very, very cute version of the In Death universe.

Characters: Heidi, Janice, Audrey, and Sandra
I've said it before and I'll say it again...the normal women in this fandom never get enough credit. This story gives them a whole lot of credit. Set in the "5 Years Gone" AU, Heidi, Janice, Audrey, and Sandra are not merely standing by and watching the world fall apart. They're doing something to stop it. The story is awesome, the writing fantastic, and the characterization is perfect. I absolutely adored this story.

And now for the bandom portion of this rec. Do you know how hard it is to find het or gen in a mostly slash fandom? It's like digging for a needle in a haystack. But thanks to some wonderful friends, I've found some diamond-studded needles.

It's cute. It's sweet. It has a female character who is not a glamorous size 2, but Joe makes her feel beautiful anyway. Excellent!

Based on "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," this story was hilarious! Pete plays the Devil while Patrick plays the poor sap who makes the bet. Very, very funny.

Pairing: Patrick/Greta (Fall Out Boy/The Hush Sound)
I'm a sucker for the fluff, and this story brought the fluff. Very beautiful, very sweet.

Yep, only I could rec the gen and the het in a mostly slash fandom. Weird, huh?

Those who know me know I love a good AU crossover. And boy, have I found a good Supernatural/Highlander one by strangevisitor7.

It centers around Dean learning he's Immortal, and Duncan coming to train him. (And it's set in an AU where Richie didn't die...extra brownie points in my book.)

The writing is fun, everyone is in character, and it's interesting watching this story unfold.

I celebrated my thirtieth birthday on Sunday, and it was very, very good. As a result, my sneaky friends on LJ wrote some incredible fic for me - Highlander, incredible crossovers, and Charmed. And the best part is all of it is good. So, go read and leave some feedback.

The Lesson Continues (Highlander) by angelsgracie - This HL fic features our original characters, Christina's Grace and my Emma. A sequel to my The Lesson, it tells the story of Emma's training at the hands of Grace. Fantastic character development!

Baby, Shake Me One More Time (Supernatural/surprise crossover) by medie - This is one story you have to read to believe. Dean and Sam are on the trail of something that makes everyone sing Britney Spears. Absolutely, completely hilarious! You'll love it!

Melinda is Never Turning 21 (Charmed) by njborba - You just can't leave those Halliwell boys alone. Piper and Leo fret when Wyatt gets Chris into trouble on his 21st birthday. Very cute, very loving familyfic.

Saving Jade (Doctor Who/Pern) by azarsuerte - I would've never thought to put these two worlds together, but they blend beautifully! While on Pern, Martha makes a new friend. It's a fun blending of two excellent universes, and one I certainly want to see J continue. Excellent fic!

I'm very picky about the Heroes stories I read so when I find a good one featuring Matt or Heidi, I get excited.

Parkman, You Idiot by hermatitebadger - This Matt and Audrey piece picks up right after the season ender. Matt's in the hospital, nursing his bullet wounds and Audrey is watching over him. It's a funny and wonderful friendship story that shows the easy relationship between Matt and Audrey.

A Crack in the Pavement by takethesky87 - I've always had a special love for character pieces, and this one certainly earned that love. It focuses on Peter and shows Nathan and Nathan/Heidi through his eyes. It's completely and totally gen, and that's such a wonderful change of pace. Very well written.

Everybody and their sister has already read this story, but it is fantastic and fully deserves a rec post of its own.

Spring Chickens by corvidae9 (Supernatural) - Aggie and Muriel have been hunting spooks and monsters since before Dean was a twinkle in his mother's eye. With excellent character development and snappy dialogue, Aggie and Muriel show you how to kick it old school and without breaking a hip. Very awesome story. I'm hoping Aggie and Muriel make a repeat performance someday.

The Librarian, the Witch, and the Wal-Mart by buffyspazz (Supernatural, gen) - I've been dying for SPN fic set in North Carolina, and it looks like I found some. In a ploy to avoid vacation, Sam drags Dean into a case in a small NC coastal town. At first, it looks pretty lame, but things quickly start turning on its ear. Not only are Sam and Dean in character, but all the original characters in this fic are so well-written. They're colorful and well rounded and I'd love to see them all again. She has the rhythm of small-town life down beautifully. It's funny, it's fun, and a definite must read.

A Curse and a Gift, writer unknown since it was written for an anonymous fic exchange (Supernatural, gen) - I'm a sucker for a good "Dean has powers" fic, and this is definitely one of them. A grateful girl magically bestows Dean with the power to communicate with animals, but Dean isn't thankful. The writing is funny and the case flows steadily as the two intertwine beautifully. Another fun romp in SPN gen fic.

Blessed by njborba (Charmed, gen) - I really, really wish Prue and Paige could've met on the show, but actresses' egos wouldn't let it happen. However, I can still have the moment in beautiful fics like this. It's a touching moment between Paige, Piper, and Prue, and gives us a taste of what could have been. Lovely, lovely fic.

Spring is in the air! So what better way to spend it than reading some good Supernatural and Heroes fic?

Supernatural

These are oldies, but goodies.

Burning by philote_auctor. Gen. An intense and beautiful look at Sam right after he lost Jess. I love how the author brings his character to life. Dean is also very well-written here; the way he protects his little brother without a thought. A very, very good piece.

Gremlins by apocalypsos. Gen. If you want to laugh, then you can't go wrong with Trollprincess. This story is short and written mostly in dialogue, but it had me rolling all the way through it. Too, too funny, indeed.

A Storm in the Silence by lyra_wing. Gen. I love the idea of Missouri being more involved with John and the boys than the show leads us to believe. This is an excellent story about Missouri taking care of wee!Dean and baby!Sam, and it's just a very sweet piece.

Repent (and Gain Forgiveness) by formerlydf. Gen. I'm a sucker for a good original character, and yes, the original character doesn't have to be the love interest. This story is a good example of that. This writer created her version of Death before we ever saw the Reapers in the show. I love how Death takes an interest in Sam and tries to shelter him the only way she knows how. It's beautifully written and beautifully told.

Heroes

My new favorite love.

Granite by crapnahalficons. Heidi/Nathan. In this fandom filled with Paire fic, I very rarely get to read Heidi/Nathan or Matt/Janice. And then along came this fic. This story gives us a strong look at Heidi and how she feels about everything happening around her. I love how she confronts Nathan and tells him exactly how she feels. The dialogue is real; the characterization is spot on. Fantastic fic!

you're hopeless 'cause you tell the truth by technosage. Claire/Zach. I'm pretty sure the show will never give me Claire/Zach again so I cheered when I read this wonderfully fluffy piece. (And, I always get excited when Technosage writes het.) It's a sweet moment between the two and is told beautifully.

These Lives That We've Tendered Away by lunarknightz. Gen. LK always seems to have my number when she plays "What if?", and she certainly had it with this fic. The Petrellis, Sylar, and Linderman are all spot on. The plot flows seamlessly and believably. Basically, what if Claire wasn't the only "special" child adopted out? Fantastic fic!

Truth Be Known by Seanachais -- Prue/Andy, AU
This is the way Andy should have found out about Prue. The plot was tight and the characters were in character. I loved how Seanachais wrote the chemistry between these two characters. She let it flow naturally and the end result was beautiful. A fun and fabulous read.

Three Ways Chris's Identity Was Never Revealed by storydivagirl -- Gen, AU
When the world found out who Chris was on the show, we were given a small reveal scene and that was it. storydivagirl, who is one of my all-time favorite writers, couldn't leave it like that. She crafted three fun-filled ficlets about how the reveal could have gone. True to her craft, she writes Chris, Leo, and the sisters beautifully. Her dialogue and characterization are amazing. Definitely a fun read.

Dance Lesson by njborba -- Piper/Leo
Necia is my most favorite Charmed writer of all time. She takes the sisters (especially Piper) and explores everyday things as well as the magical part of their lives. It was hard choosing one to rec, but I think this one is my favorite. It's a sweet moment between Piper and Leo where Piper is teaching Leo to country line dance. It's sweet and romantic. Lovely.

Healing by ladybug218 -- Leo and Chris
Ladybug got her start in Charmed fic and she made quite the impression. Her Chris is always fun to read and I love how he relates to Leo as his father. This piece shows a quiet father-son moment between the two and shows it with grace and dignity. A wonderful ficlet.

Azar blends her into Blair's world seemlessly, almost as if she belonged there in the first place. Ariel has to be one of my favorite OCs, and I only wish Azar was still writing her stories.

Why? I told you I'm a sucker for a good OFC, and Suzanna definitely fits the bill. This story gives us a glimpse at what Jonas's life could have been like on his planet. It takes place after he's come home, and he has a lot of work to do with Suzanna. Beautiful characterization and dialogue. An excellent, excellent piece.

Why? Even if the show has rendered it AU, this story displays a softer side to Lionel Luthor without messing up his character. It's a beautiful one-shot set during the time Lionel was blind, sharing a rare, happy family memory and the feelings Lionel might have had for his wife at one time. A lovely story.

Why? Follows my good OFC kink. Even though this is a PWP, Sanssong still manages to give Gwen a background, a personality, and a life. She really makes you want to to know more about this character and her relationship with Ronon. Beautifully done. (And the sex is really well written, too.)

I figured I'd start the recs LJ with the first fanfic I ever fell in love with. I don't know if this woman is still ficcing or if there's any way to get in touch with her, but this story has always stuck with me.

Why? The simplicity of this fic has always struck me as beautiful. Written in the style of a letter, Tessa is bequeathing Duncan to the next woman in his life. She realizes her own martality and knows Duncan will outlive her. She also knows she was the first woman he trusted with his secret and wants to make sure the next woman will be able to handle it as well. Elegant writing and excellent characterization. The fic is at least eleven years old, but it's still a wonderful read.

Title: The Best Laid Plans of Immortals, Witches, and Demons

Why? I'm a sucker for any fic that saves Richie at the end of season five. This one did it with creativity and originality by crossing it with Charmed. This was my introduction to Medie's writing, and I adored her well-crafted original witch, Emma. She was real and flawed, yet was able to help Richie. Excellent plotting, excellent writing.

Title: The Evolution of Jubilee

Why? I don't know much about Jubilee, but I love the way she's portrayed in this story. Mara took a small character and scene from X2 and expanded it into this wonderful piece. Jubilee actually grows throughout the story, which is rare for a writer to do in a short fic. A very, very good look at the character.
